Finished concrete slab cured on a cleared wooded lot in Western North Carolina

Concrete Contractor in Morganton & Western North Carolina

Driveways, slabs, foundations, walkways and repair — poured on a base that will hold them.

We pour concrete for residential and commercial jobs all over Western North Carolina: garage slabs, shop foundations, driveways, sidewalks, equipment pads. New pour, or an old slab that needs an honest look for repair versus replacement, we handle both, with the same crew that prepped the ground it's sitting on.

That last part is really the whole page. Most failed concrete around here didn't fail because of the mix. It failed because it got poured on a base that wasn't compacted, wasn't drained, or wasn't thick enough for what ended up sitting on it. We grade, base and pour as one job, so the slab actually has something underneath it worth trusting.

Morganton, Hickory, Lenoir, Marion, Valdese, and everything in between. That's our regular territory for concrete work.

Why AllTrax

Why work with us on concrete

The base gets as much attention as the slab

Compacted stone, proper thickness, drainage sorted before a truck's ever scheduled. It's the part nobody sees, and it's the part that decides how long the concrete lasts.

Reinforcement that does its job

Rebar or mesh sized to the load, tied and supported so it ends up in the middle of the slab doing something, not lying flat on the ground underneath it.

We'll tell you straight: repair or replace

Some cracked concrete is worth patching. Some is throwing good money after bad. We'll tell you which one you've got and why, not just quote you the bigger job.

Small jobs and big ones

A 10x12 shed pad or a full shop floor. We bring the crew and equipment to match whatever's actually in front of us.

Local, and accountable for it

We live and work in these counties. If something's wrong down the road, you know exactly where to find us. No 800 number, no runaround.

Answers

Concrete questions

How much does a concrete slab cost in North Carolina?

A standard four-inch reinforced slab runs about $7 to $12 per square foot installed around here, which puts a 24x24 garage slab at roughly $4,000 to $7,000. Thicker slabs, tough access, heavy site prep, or a long pump reach all push that number up. Site prep is usually the swing factor, which is why we quote the ground and the concrete as one job.

How thick should my concrete driveway or slab be?

Four inches covers foot traffic, patios and passenger-vehicle driveways just fine. Bump to five or six inches with rebar anywhere trucks, RVs, trailers or equipment are going to sit or turn. On soft or clay subgrade, honestly, the base under the slab matters as much as what's poured on top of it.

Should I repair or replace cracked concrete?

Hairline surface cracks in an otherwise solid slab are cosmetic. Seal them and move on. Replacement's the honest answer once sections have settled to different heights, the edges are crumbling and spalling across a wide area, cracks are wide enough to catch a fingernail and still growing, or the base underneath has washed out. Patching a slab sitting on a failed base just buys you a year.

How long before I can drive on new concrete?

You can walk on it in a day or two. Keep passenger vehicles off for at least a week, and heavy trucks or equipment for a full 28 days, and that's when it hits full design strength. Cold weather slows all of that down further.

Why does concrete crack, and can it be prevented?

All concrete cracks as it cures and shrinks. The real question is whether it cracks where you want it to. Control joints cut in the right places, correct thickness, proper reinforcement, a compacted base, and not over-watering the mix on pour day. That's what keeps cracking to the planned joints instead of a random line straight across the middle of your slab.
