Land Clearing in Asheville, Morganton & Western NC

Brush, trees, stumps and undergrowth cleared and hauled so your lot is ready to build, farm or enjoy.

Turning a wooded lot into a homesite starts with clearing it, and that's most of what this page is about. We clear building sites, pasture, food plots, fence lines, view corridors and property that's just plain grown up, all over Asheville, Morganton, Marion, Union Mills and the counties around them.

Clearing isn't just knocking trees down, though. What happens to the stumps, the root mat, the topsoil and the debris decides whether your lot settles under the foundation later, whether you're fighting erosion for the next two years, or how much of your budget quietly disappears into hauling fees. Those are decisions worth making before the first tree comes down, not after.

Why AllTrax

Why work with us on land clearing

Selective when it makes sense

We'll talk through which trees stay. A mature hardwood or a view line is often worth more standing than it is cleared.

Stumps done right

Grubbing the root system out where you're going to build beats grinding every time. It's the difference between solid ground and a void that shows up years later under your slab.

Erosion control from the first cut

Bare ground on a slope here will move in the first hard rain, so stabilization goes in as we clear, not after the damage is already done.

You pick how the debris goes

Burn piles where it's allowed, chipping, hauling off, or windrowing along a property edge. We price the options so the choice is actually yours.

Straight into the next phase

The same crew that clears your lot can grade the pad, cut the driveway and set the drainage. Nothing gets lost in the handoff, because there isn't one.

Stump grinding & grubbing

Removing stumps and root systems so the ground is stable enough to build or drive on.

Land Clearing questions

How much does land clearing cost per acre in North Carolina?

Lightly wooded or brushy ground in Western NC commonly runs $1,500 to $3,500 per acre. Dense hardwoods with stump removal is more like $3,500 to $8,000 per acre, and steep or hard-to-reach ground pushes past that. Most homesites only need a slice of an acre cleared, though, so the actual bill usually lands well under what the per-acre number suggests.

Do I need a permit to clear land in Western NC?

Clearing under one acre for a single-family homesite is generally exempt from the state erosion control permit. County rules, steep slope ordinances, watershed overlays and city limits can all change that, and Buncombe County and the City of Asheville in particular pile on extra requirements for steep slopes. We check what applies to your parcel before anything starts.

Should I grind the stumps or dig them out?

Grinding is cheaper, and it's fine for a yard or pasture where nothing structural is going on top. Anywhere you plan to build, pour or drive, though, dig the stump and its root system out and backfill the hole with compacted material. Ground stumps leave organic matter behind, and organic matter rots and settles.

What happens to the trees and debris?

Depends on the site and what you're after. We'll chip it, pile and burn where the county allows open burning, windrow it along a property edge as a screen and a little wildlife habitat, or just haul it off. Worth asking a logger about merchantable timber before we clear, too. On the right tract it can offset a real chunk of the cost.

How long does it take to clear a lot?

A half-acre to one-acre homesite is usually one to three days to clear, plus another day or two if stumps are coming out and the ground needs a rough grade. Heavy timber, tight access or wet ground all stretch that out.
